Central Zakat Council of the Ministry of Zakat and Ushr has released Rs 91.602 million from Zakat fund as first instalment of stipends for promotion of technical education in the far flung and backward areas in the province of Sindh for the year 2008-09.
According to official sources in the Ministry of Zakat and Ushr here on Saturday, these stipends are released every year from the funds of the Central Zakat Council to the poor and destitute youth who seek various trade and skills in various Vocational Training Institutes (VTI) for promotion of technical education in the far flung and backward areas of the country.
The objective to release Zakat funds for the promotion of technical education is to alleviate poverty and unemployment in the country, enable to poor students of the backward areas to stand on their feet and earn a fair livelihood to sustain their families. Moreover, Zakat funds are also released to the hospitals and national health institutions for treatment of poor patients and people effected by natural calamities.
