Bid to attack Parliament foiled: Malik

The vigilant law enforcement agencies have foiled a bid to attack Parliament and security agencies after they arrested two suicide bombers from Islamabad during the last two days, said Rehman Malik, Federal Interior Minister here on Wednesday. "Two suicide bombers have been arrested during the last two days in Islamabad, one had plan to attack the parliament and other on a secret agency office complex," Rehman Malik told the National Assembly.
He thanked the opposition for withdrawal of cut motions on the expenditures of the Interior Ministry saying that it proves that entire nation is united on the security issues. "I am thankful for the gesture of opposition as it proved that there is no compromise on security of the country," Malik said. He said that Swat and other parts of Malakand division have been cleared from terrorists and extremists during the 'Operation Rah e Raast.'
More than 1592 terrorists have been killed so far in the operation. He said that the restoration of infrastructure in these insurgency hit areas are going on with quick speed and very soon entire system will be restored along with all utilities. Malik said the problem in Dera Ismail Khan is basically of sectarian nature and necessary administrative changes are being made to bring the situation under control.
