President and Prime Minister discuss constitutional reforms

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani held a meeting at the Presidency and discussed the matters relating constitutional reforms and political situation in the country. Spokesperson of the President Farhatullah Babar said the matters pertaining to the setting up of the 27-member Parliamentary Committee to recommend a Constitutional reforms package, dominated the discussions during the meeting.
The President felicitated the Prime Minister on the formation of the committee and expressed the hope that the committee would soon get to task and submit its recommendations for removing the anti-democracy clauses injected into the Constitution by successive dictatorships.
The President said the Constitution needs to be reformed to make it truly democratic, federal and parliamentary in character by removing from it the distortions, which had robbed it of its parliamentary character. The President also apprised the Prime Minister about his meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of SCO Summit in Yekaterinburg in Russia.
