US MIDDAY: copper higher

US copper futures rose to their highest levels in nearly two weeks Thursday morning, as technical momentum kicked in after prices took out the previous session's highs, setting the stage for further gains ahead of the second quarter's end next week.
Copper for September delivery firmed 6.00 cents, or 2.6 percent, to $2.3410 a lb by 10:26 am EDT (1426 GMT) on the New York Mercantile Exchange's COMEX division. Morning range from $2.2450 to $2.3430, its highest level since June 15. COMEX estimated futures volume at 13,481 lots by 10 am.
