95 percent never get chance to travel abroad: Gallup

Ninety five percent have never had a chance to travel outside Pakistan, only five percent said they have gone abroad, said Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan. According to survey, amongst those who have travelled overseas, majority 52 percent have visited UAE. The remaining respondents have claimed to visit Asian countries 24 percent, Europe 13 percent Africa and USA 10 percent.
The survey shows that majority, 44 percent of these people went abroad for employment or business ventures and one third, 34 percent travelled to perform Hajj or Umra. Some of the other reasons cited were recreation eight percent, visiting relatives eight and education or others six percent. A nationally representative sample of men and women across the country were asked "Have you ever had a chance to travel abroad?"
Only five percent said yes whereas the majority of respondents 95 percent claimed to have never travelled outside Pakistan. Interestingly, a significant higher percentage of respondents from NWFP 16 percent said they have gone abroad as compared to people from other provinces. The survey was conducted among a sample of 2,715 men and women from rural and urban areas of all provinces of the country, during January this year.
