PIA Investments to manage Airport Hotel: contract officers to be regularised

PIA's 320th Board of Directors meeting was held at the airline's Head Office at Karachi on Saturday. The Board approved absorption of contractual officers into permanent employment from July 1, 2009, subject to their meeting the criteria for such absorption.
The Board desired that PIA Investments Ltd, which has a good experience of running hotels as a core business, should manage the Airport Hotel on the same lines as it was managing Roosevelt Hotel, New York, and Scribe Hotel, Paris.
The Board endorsed that as a socially responsible corporate citizen of Pakistan, PIA was performing various welfare and youth development activities. The Board approved the formation of a committee to integrate and institutionalise the corporate social responsibilities of PIA. The Board reviewed the implementation status on the decisions taken earlier and showed its satisfaction on the actions taken by the management.
The Board desired that to bring about sustainable improvements, the Management should take steps and work out on various strategies including cost cutting measures, formation of joint ventures and outsourcing of non-core activities.
The meeting was presided over by Ahmed Mukhtar, Minister for Defence & Chairman of PIA, and was attended by Captain Mohammad Aijaz Haroon, Managing Director, PIA, Naseer Ahmed, Nazir Ahmad, Javed Akhtar, Lieutenant General Athar Ali, Professor Ijaz ul Hassan, Mubashir Iftikhar, Husain Lawai and Shaukat Ali Rana.-PR
