Work on several projects to overcome power shortage: Pepco DG

Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) Managing Director Tahir Basharat Cheema has said that the government is working on several power generation projects to overcome electricity shortage in the country. Talking to PTV, he said the government had allocated Rs 65 billion during last fiscal year to pay subsidy on electricity, adding the government had set the target of generating 35,000MW by the end of December.
He said two to three power generation plants would be added in the system every month, which would help in ending the load shedding from the country. He hoped that power situation would be improved in the country after the completion of all those projects.
He said for cheaper electricity, the country had to move to hydro and acoal for power generation. Cheema urged the consumer not to use electricity unnecessarily, and advised the consumer to set their air-conditioner at 26 centigrade and switch off unnecessary lights.
He also requested to all business community to save the energy and they should work and utilise the daylight time, which would be beneficial to the country. He claimed that Pepco working was round the clock to make all possible arrangements for injecting 3000MW electricity in the distribution system soon.
