The Lahore High Court adjourned for July 11 the hearing in an election petition of PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain against the defence minister Ahmad Mukhtar of PPP when petitioner counsel was still submitting his arguments. PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat, who had lost election for national assembly seat NA-105, Gujrat against Ahmad Mukhtar moved the petition.
Chaudhry Shujaat requested to declare respondent Mukhtar as disqualified on the basis of certain irregularities committed during the polling. He alleged that on the day of polling grave irregularities were committed in the constituency by Ahmad Mukhtar and the election authorities. He alleged that almost at all the polling stations PPP workers forcefully barred a number of voters of the petitioner from casting their votes. He further alleged that the returning officer also considered a number of rejected votes in favour of Ahmad Mukhtar, when the RO was bound to re-examine all the rejected votes presented by the presiding officers.
He further pleaded that Ahmad Mukhtar was also a defaulter of Rs 63,5162 against property tax so he should be declared as disqualified for contesting elections. Chaudhry Shujaat prayed the court to declare him as returned candidate.
