Doctors for transparency, accountability to improve medical services

Heads of diverse medical and surgical departments at Civil Hospital Karachi have underscored the need for absolute transparency and accountability in context of procurement of different medical gadgets as well as medicines and other essential items.
Talking to APP here Saturday they said that experience over the years had shown that gadgets procured against heavy costs could not last long due to various factors. "It was not only due to poor management but also because the sale deed had little or no provision for easy availability of important components and parts," a senior doctor said.
Doctors observed that there had been frequent instances when comparatively obsolete gadgets, often without provision for replacement of worn out components, were preferred over models with easily available spare parts.
