The country's first Parking Plaza constructed in Saddar town will be inaugurated on 12 July 2009. The services of an international organisation has been hired to manage the Parking Plaza. The fee to park a vehicle and a motorcycle has been fixed at Rs 20 and Rs 10 per three hours, respectively.
This was decided at a meeting presided over by Karachi City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal. The meeting was also attended among others by DCO Karachi Javed Hanif Khan and all EDOs. Mustafa Kamal said the Parking Plaza is not aimed at generating revenue for the city government but to facilitate citizens. If we today do not provide parking plazas then there will be unmanageable traffic jams on city roads in the days to come, he added.
