Gunship helicopters pounded the positions of terrorists in the Mangal Tan area of Charbagh tehsil of Swat, killing 12 terrorists and injuring several others, defence sources said. Cobra helicopters also destroyed several hideouts in Mangal Tan area, they maintained.
They said the curfew had been relaxed in Shangla, Khwaza Khella, Madin, Darash Khella and Badara from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm on Monday. The spokesman of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the security forces killed 14 terrorists and arrested many others in Malakand division during the last 24 hours, where 'Operation Rah-e-Raast' was underway. While a child was martyred and four soldiers were injured during the operation, he added.
He further said a huge quantity of arms and ammunition, explosives and other equipment were also recovered during the operation. Security forces recovered 50 mules carrying arms and ammunition, explosives, medicines and food items during a search operation at Banjut area of Swat valley and also arrested many terrorists, he said.
Security forces attacked terrorists' hideouts in Tiligram area of Swat and killed 14 terrorists in a fierce battle which lasted for many hours, he said, adding that a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives, four improvised explosive devices (IEDs), one 14.5 gun barrel and 26 detonators were also recovered.
During a search operation conducted by security forces in Thana area a soldier was injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion, he said, adding that the search operation was also conducted in Tahirabad area of Mingora, where security forces recovered surgical equipment, 9 hand grenades and office furniture from the house of a terrorist. He said security forces conducted a search operation at Dadhra and recovered a hand grenade and high altitude sleeping bag.
After fierce battle with terrorists security forces had cleared Tighak Banda and Gakhe Banda areas of Swat from terrorists, while in a gun battle with terrorists two soldiers were injured at Pir Patai ridge, he said. A search operation was also conducted by security forces around Uchrai Sar- Ziarat Khapa - Datpanrai area during which they recovered 2 Small Machine Guns and 1 gas mask.
The spokesman said security forces recovered 2,156 rounds of Small Machine Gun, 9,728 rounds of Light Machine Gun, 7 grenades, 8 magazines of Small Machine Gun, from a Single Cabin Hilux at Kharkhanai Chowk in Dir district.
He said an IED planted by terrorists exploded near a civil vehicle at village Sarati Sherangal, Upper Dir. Resultantly a child was killed and 10 civilians were injured. He said the security forces conducted a search operation in Rajgae Kandao area of Buner district and arrested two terrorists along with five kilogram explosives.
The spokesman said, " So far 4,872 families have returned to Bajaur, Buner, Shangla and Dir districts of Malakand division, while 6,140 cash cards were distributed among the IDPs of Malakand from July 3 to 5." He said, "total 754 tons of relief goods have been distributed so far in district Shangla, Upper Swat, Mingora and Charbagh.
