'Local government system to be reviewed and amended'

10 Jul, 2009

Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Abdul Razzaq A Thahim on Thursday said the LG system was purely provincial subject to be reviewed by introducing some necessary amendments under the Article 32, to remove the visible deficiencies and make it more people friendly.
"The Prime Minister has announced its dissolution following with the recommendations proposed in the Intra-Provincial meeting on June 6, attended by the three Provincial Ministers and Chief Minister of Balochistan who unanimously decided to review the system before holding the new election," he said this while talking to APP.
He ruled out the role of Federal Government in dissolution of the system, saying "we have nothing to do with the system but every province wanted to introduce its own reforms to make it more appropriate and plausible according to requirements of their locals." To a question regarding delay in LG election, the Minister said, "It was also decided in the Intra-Provincial meeting that the environment for holding election was not conducive."
