Pepco authorities have been directed to complete the extension work at 132 kV grid station at Prova, Dera Ismail Khan to make it functional by 20th July. This was noted in a statement by Faisal Karim Kundi, Deputy Speaker of National Assembly while announcing a hefty grant of Rs 273.119 million for Gomal University, D.I Khan, in Parliament House on Friday.
The deputy speaker revealed that necessary funds had been released to PEPCO to expedite its work on the grid station. After the commissioning of the grid station, he added, there would be ample electricity to fulfil the requirements of industrial zone, agriculture and domestic consumers.
The deputy speaker, while talking to a delegation of notables, representatives of social organisations and students, stressed that the funds provided by the Prime Minister would be spent on establishment of educational infrastructure, technological research and development, and on the facilitation of students of D.I Khan.
It is the only university of D.I Khan, catering to the educational needs of the area and adjoining districts, he added. He stressed that education contributes towards fast track socio-economic growth of the country besides making people self-sustaining.
He lamented that D.I. Khan was one of the far-flung areas of the country lagging behind in education, healthcare, communication and job opportunities when compared to other areas of the country. The Deputy Speaker assured the delegation that the rehabilitation of the affected people of D.I. Khan, displaced due to terrorist activities, was on top priority of the government.-PR
