Jamaat-i-Islami and transporters on Friday staged separate protest demonstrations against increase in the prices of petroleum products through a Presidential Ordinance. Jamaat-i-Islami organised its rally at Peshawar Press Club. Shabbir Ahmad Khan, a former MMA MNA from Peshawar City led the rally. Jamaat-i-Islami demo criticised President Asif Ali Zardari for the promulgation of the Ordinance.
Scores of JI activists were carrying banners and placards inscribed with anti-government slogans. The protesters also raised slogans against federal and provincial governments. Transporters staged their protest demo in front of General Bus Stand on main GT Road. The demo was led by Haji Ehsanullah, President, Sarhad Legal Transporters Action Committee.
