The provincial capital received scattered heavy downpour on Monday, which inundated many parts of the city and thus limiting the mobility of the city's inhabitants and also had to face very muggy weather. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department Lahore, the city received 49 mm of rain that began in the afternoon and lasted for a few hours.
The maximum temperature as high as 39 Celsius degrees and the minimum temperature was 29 Celsius degrees. Other parts of the country also received rain, including Islamabad 33 mm, Abbotabad 22 mm, Mangla 6 mm, Kotli 4 mm and Murree 2 mm. For the next 24 hours, the Met Office has forecast isolated thundershowers in Kashmir, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala and Mirpur Khas divisions. However, hot and humid weather is most likely in other parts of the country.
Meanwhile, different localities of the city were inundated with rainwater, which took Wasa hours to drain out. The areas affected by rain, included Laxmi Chowk, Gharishahu, Bhatti Gate, Mochi Gate, Shahjamal, Aik Moria Pul, Chowk Nah Khuda, Shahbaz Chowk in Samanabad, Hussian Chowk in Gulberg, Saidpur on Multan Road, Scheme Mor and Multan Chungi. In these areas, vehicles, especially motorcycles, found a daunting task to drive on the flooded roads and many were stranded in the water.
The WASA made hectic efforts to drain out the rainwater within a half an hour, but in Laxmi Chowk it over two hours and in Gharishahu were declared clean at 7 pm. However, the rain provided no respite from humid weather to the people of Lahore; in fact as the sun came out intensity in humidity increase manifolds. Combination of humidity and loadshedding made their lives very miserable.
