Justice Shakoor of LHC resigns

14 Aug, 2009

Lahore High Court (LHC) judge, Justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha, on Thursday resigned apparently to avoid action by Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on corruption charges. Justice Shakoor sent his resignation to President of Pakistan. He is the second judge of the LHC, who resigned. Justice Nasim was first LHC judge who resigned on August 7.
SJC in its August 08 meeting had issued notice to Justice Paracha in corruption reference. Justice Paracha was a sitting judge at the time November 3 emergency and PCO. He opted to take PCO oath along with 21 LHC judges. With his resignation the number of LHC judges has reduced to 20 in which 12 are PCO judges while eight are non-PCO. LHC is now short of 40 judges against the sanctioned strength of 60.
