Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has said that army institution should detach itself from Pervez Musharraf, and asked for action against the person who violated the Constitution and law of the land. Addressing a function in connection with 63rd Independence Day celebrations here on Friday, PML-N chief said that there was no need of any resolution for initiating action against Pervez Musharraf.
"The government must not show any reluctance; rather it should realise its responsibility, and initiate action against Musharraf so that the way of imposition of martial law may be stopped once for all," he said. He said that punishing a dictator was necessary to secure the future of coming generations.
He said, "It is law of nature that the person who commits any wrongdoing has to pay for it. If Musharraf is involved in killing of Akber Bugti he must be held accountable." He added that situation in Balochistan was deteriorating due to hatred created after the murder of Akber Bugti.
He said that March 16, 2009 was a historic day, as Pakistani nation proved its strength on that day. He vowed to play his role to give respectable and dignified status to the country in the comity of nations. He said the nation should forge unity in its ranks to secure the country's future. He said it was ironical that despite being an atomic power the country is facing worst load shedding which is not only causing severe hardships for public but also badly affecting the economy.
He said that Pervez Musharraf should be summoned in the National Assembly to explain why during 8 -year rule he failed to add even a single MW in the system. When Pervez Musharraf had gone abroad, he said, he had already said that he would not come back.
The PML-N leader asked the nation to decide "on this Independence Day" whether it wants to bring to justice the person who repeatedly violated the Constitution and also took action against judiciary on November 3. He said the country could only achieve the goal of progress and prosperity by stopping the way of martial law in the country.
Referring to his recent meeting with President Asif Zardari, he said that he had asked Asif to hold Pervez Musharraf accountable for his misdeeds committed by him in his eight-year illegal rule. "We had no compulsion. We just want punishment to those who committed wrongdoings and caused irreparable loss to the country as well as nation."
Nawaz also bitterly criticised Pervez Musharraf for causing harm to the Kashmir issue. He said when Atal Behari Vajpayee came to Lahore on his invitation, he asked for resolution of Kashmir problem in 1999. However, he said, Pervez Musharraf caused harm to the Kashmir issue more than India.
He said that the country always got good news during democratic rule. He also mentioned that in his first rule as prime minister, the country was marching on the road of progress and prosperity, but President Ghulam Ishaq Khan, due to personal grudge against him, dissolved the assembly.
He specially mentioned Shahbaz Sharif for his hard work to remove ills prevailing in the system. He said that Shahbaz was sincerely using his energies to streamline things. In this endeavour, his health was affected, Nawaz said. Referring to Kargil incident, he said only four generals, including Pervez Musharraf, had started the fiasco without taking Corps Commanders into confidence. But, he said, he had taken this on his shoulder in the larger interest of the country.
