The Holy month of Ramazan is a good opportunity for people to quit the deadly habit of smoking. This was stated by President College of Family Medicines NWFP Dr Saeed-ul-Majeed while addressing a function held in connection with National Quit Tobacco Smoking Day here on Friday.
While stressing the need of a joint struggle for control over the deadly habit, Dr Majeed said that despite the declaration of tobacco smoking as un-Islamic, its use has been increased to a dangerous level. Dr Saeed-ul-Majeed said that about 47.5 percent men and 10.3 percent women are smoking tobacco in the world while in Pakistan, 40 percent men and 8 percent women are taking tobacco in different forms. He said that tobacco smoking enters 4000 chemicals into human body in which 50 chemicals are poisons and injurious to human life.
He revealed that according to a report of World Health Organisation (WHO), tobacco smoking kills 5.4 million people annually in the world and if the situation remain the same then by year 2030, the figure has been feared to touch 8 million. He urged the people to quit the habit of smoking in Ramazan and keep themselves busy for it through offering five times prayers and recitation of Holy Qur'an.-PR
