Pakistan Petroleum Limited has hired the services of a Singaporean firm to put out the fire which has engulfed the well No 38 of the Sui Gas Field for the last 40 days, an official said. "The fire is not of ordinary nature as such fires occur very rarely," PPL official Saqib Hameed said.
The official said that the PPL lacked necessary expertise and infrastructure required for such situations. He further said the team of experts had arrived in Pakistan and would launch the operation within a couple of days.
Without specifying the cause of fire, the official stated that on the advice of experts, PPL had set up infrastructure around the well, which is required for fire extinguishing operations. When contacted, another official of PPL said that the fire erupted after the well was hit by a rocket fired by unknown miscreants. He however, said the fire would not affect the overall operation of the field.
