Malaysian share prices closed up 0.91 percent on Monday with gains across all sectors following positive economic news from the US, dealers said. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index added 10.70 points to 1,174.49. Advancing stocks outnumbered decliners 390 to 238.
"Investors were more than happy to seize this opportunity to ride the upswing after last week's correction," a dealer told Dow Jones Newswires. "However, volume traded was less than convincing, suggesting many players were still sitting on the sidelines," he said.
"A number of big caps will also be announcing their quarterly results this week and second-quarter GDP data is due. This could temper some of this new excitement," he added. Gainers included Genting which rose 5.8 percent to 6.59 ringgit, Maybank which added 1.4 percent to 6.52 ringgit and Unisem which jumped 8.8 percent to 1.74 ringgit.
