Swiss franc pauses after rally

25 Aug, 2009

The Swiss franc fell against the euro and the dollar on Monday, giving up some of the ground gained during a considerable show of strength in last week's trading. The franc fell against the euro compared to the New York close, trading at 1.5179 francs per euro versus 1.5163 late on Friday.
In the immediate future, various pressures were likely to pin the franc in the 1.50 to 1.54 range against the euro, Credit Suisse analyst Marcus Hettinger said. "The upside of the euro is limited even with strong equities markets, but the continued threat of Swiss National Bank intervention limits the Swiss franc's upside," Hettinger said. The franc was also weaker against the dollar at 1.0609 per dollar compared to 1.058 late on Friday.
