27 Aug, 2009

Nine people died and three were missing when a passenger boat sank off the Indonesian resort island of Bali on Wednesday, an official said. The boat carrying 25 people was travelling from Kusamba beach in eastern Bali to Nusa Penida island when it capsized, a health ministry crisis centre official named Wihartama told AFP. "Nine died. Three went missing and 13 have been taken to hospital," he said.
It is not yet known what caused the boat to capsize, Wihartama said. Indonesia's 234 million people are spread across 17,000 islands and deadly ferry accidents are common.
