A US military spokesman says 10 boxes of ballot materials have been lost after falling out of a helicopter cargo net during transport. The loss of the boxes occurred Wednesday as officials readied to release more presidential election results.
Lieutenant Cmdr. Christine Sidenstricker said that in eastern Nuristan province, a US military helicopter transporting election materials in a cargo net underneath the aircraft lost 25 boxes of election materials, though 15 were later recovered.
She said US troops will continue to search for the other 10 boxes, and officials were conducting an inventory to learn whether the missing boxes contained ballots or other less critical election materials. Afghan officials are now counting millions of ballots from around the country.
