Provincial Minister Agha Siraj Khan Durrani, said that the local government system was not to be dismantled, but that amendments would be incorporated, in consultation with coalition partners. Nazims in Karachi had done great work, but no work had been done in the interior of Sindh, he said, while speaking at a function organised by the City Thinkers Forum at the KMC Sports Complex.
On the occasion, an award was presented to the City Naib Nazim Nasrin Jalil and the Town Nazims in recognition of their performance during the last 4 years. Agha Siraj said that their government had never interfered in the work of the Nazims and that they enjoyed our full co-operation.
He said that the effort of the opponents was to develop cracks in the coalition of the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Muttaheda Qaumi Movement, because they thought that if the coalition continued, the city and the province would progress, which they didn't want.
The LG Minister said that the core committee of two parties would solve the local government system-related problems, through reconciliation and understanding. Speaking on the occasion, various Town Nazims described Agha Siraj Durrani as their boss and said that they all respected him.
Arif Khan Advocate said that the PPP and MQM were resolving matters through consultation. Javed Ahmed said that their life and death was with Sindh and that they would continue to play their role for the progress of the Sindh Province. Later, Agha Siraj presented awards to the Towns Nazims Javed Ahmed, Arif Khan Advocate Usama Qadri and Kamran Akhtar for their best performance.
The award of the City Naib Nazim Nasrin Jalil was received by Sarwat Arif, a member of the City Council, while that of Wasey Jalil was received by Asif Siddiqi. Awards were also announced for Izhar Ahmed Khan, Nazim SITE, Mohammed Kamal Malik, Nazim Gulberg, Murtaza Baluch, Nazim Gadap, Asif Hasnain, former Nazim Landhi, Mumtaz Hameed, Nazim North Nazimabad, DCO Javed Hanif Khan and former DCO Fazlur Rehman.
