Partly Facetious: Where lashkars are allowed to form

27 Aug, 2009

"So did Nawaz Sharif did or he didn't?"
"With respect to charges levelled against him by Altaf Hussain?"
"Yes."
"There is only one response to your question."
"And that is?"
"Did Altaf Hussain or didn't he?"
"Ah, I see. You are being facetious."
"No, I am not, just stating facts for the wise."
"And what about the not so wise?"
"I refuse to say anything more on the grounds that it may incriminate me."
"Speaking of mirandizing someone..."
"Who is that? Some foreign woman? How could you take the name of an infidel woman in the holy month of Ramazan!"
"Mirandizing means informing somebody being arrested of his or her rights to remain silent and to have an attorney present."
"Oh, sorry."
"Anyway, I am just curious: do our police mirandize anyone before arresting them?'
"Are you fasting?"
"What does that have to do with what I asked?'
"Cause your question indicates you may be delusional. This is the country where people disappear. This is one of the countries where the CIA transports victims of its rendition flights and then tortures them? This is the country of extra-judicial killings."
"You forgot the most important of all?"
"And what is that?"
"This is the country where lashkars are allowed to form, lashkars that start off being the good guys and end up being very, very bad guys indeed."
"I guess. Taliban started the same way didn't they?"
"Indeed and I believe these lashkars in the Swat valley allowed to kill with impunity..."
"Dangerous precedence but who is to tell this to Rehman Malik."
"By the time this lashkar becomes the writ in that area Malik would be long gone."
"So we have time."
"We have time now but..."
"Hey why not put off till tomorrow what you can."
"Indeed, the government's motto."
