The Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) disposed of suo motu action taken against Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) for delaying domestic flights after the authorities undertook to maintain the regularity in time and to improve its service.
Earlier, PIA officials had conceded, in a report submitted before the court, that the flights were delayed due to the scarcity of aeroplanes during the last 70 days. The report revealed that scarcity of planes is the main reason behind the delay in domestic flights as the national carrier have only four functional planes out of six while the total number of planes should be seven as per set standard.
These four planes have to travel over six sectors and in case a plane is delayed for five minutes at one station it would ended up with a delay of half an hour while landing at Lahore Air Port. The report also blamed private airlines company for contributing in delay of PIA's flights as these companies undertook at the time of getting licenses that they would introduce flights on the non-profitable routes. But they do not fulfil their commitment that had help overburden PIA's system.
