Members of a minority community evicted from the area near Rawal Dam on May 18 this year as a result of operation carried out by the capital police and CDA, and now inhabiting portion of sector G-7 of the capital, held a protest demonstration here to register their protest over their eviction.
Led by Julius Salik, Convenor of World Minorities Alliance, they marched in G-7 sector carrying placards and shouting slogans asking the concerned departments to explain the step to remove them from the piece of land especially when they had been granted three stay orders by the courts allowing them to stay there till the fate of their cases was decided.
Speaking on the occasion, Julius Salik said that the objective of holding protest was to draw attention of the concerned authorities towards predicament of the sufferers, and seek their rehabilitation with honour and dignity. He contended that affectees were also citizens of Pakistan and therefore their case should be given a patient hearing. He alleged that after the eviction of the victims, the women and children were kept in confinement in Police Station for whole night.
