A number of retailers and wholesalers were arrested for profiteering and several others were warned against for not displaying the government's price lists, as the price monitoring teams of Sindh government visited different markets of the city Friday.
According to an official statement Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Shah has constituted at least five price monitoring teams, comprising the provincial ministers, members of Assembly and advisors, to check profiteering and black marketing in different bazaars and markets across the city during the holy month of Ramazan.
It said the teams or committees would work independently and furnish their reports to the chief minister and secretary supply and prices on the basis of their visits in all four districts of the city.
According to the statement Abdul Haseeb, Khalid Bin Wilayat and Syed Sardar Ahmed would monitor the prices in Central District, M. Afzal Shaikh, Jameel Ahmed Soomro and Mufti Ferozuddin Hazarvi in District East, Rafique Engineer, Ameer Nawab Khan and Rashid Rabbani in District West and Sajid Jokhio, Waqas Malik and Nargis N.D Khan in District South. A special team, "E", had also been formed that comprises Syed Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari, Haji Muzaffar Ali Shujra and Sharmila Farooqi, the statement added.
Meanwhile, a price monitoring team, led by Advisor to CM Sindh on Inquiries and Inspection Waqas Malik, raided some major city markets in Burns Road, Clifton, Boat Basin, Neelum Colony, Gizri and Shireen Jinnah Colony along with law enforcers and price control officers and nabbed a number of profiteers on people's complaints. Malik was flanked by Provincial Minister for Zakat, Usher and Religious Affairs Sajid Jokhio, Minister for Social Welfare Nargis N.D Khan and Advisor to CM Mufti Ferozuddin Hazarvi, the statement said.-PR
