31 Aug, 2009

Provincial Minister for Agriculture, Ahmad Ali Oalakh has called the meeting of agriculture scientists on September 1 at Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) to overcome the leaf curl virus. According to the sources, leaf curl virus had destroyed almost 82 percent of cotton crops in southern Punjab.
Keeping in view the above situation, provincial minister had called an emergency meeting on September 1 in CCRI and in which all the agriculture scientists and officials of agriculture department,
pest warning department and other sub departments would be present. All the concerned officials had been directed to bring all the reports with them in the meeting. It is to be noted here that cotton worth of billions had completely destroyed in cotton-belt due to leaf curl virus. It is also feared that cotton production during the current season would be 1 to 2.5 million bales less than the target of 10 million bales in Punjab.
