The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Senior Vice President, Tahir Javed Malik, has criticised the government's 'inaction' on Rs 2 billion Green Tractor Scheme launched to provide 10,000 tractors to the farming community on subsidised rates. "The scheme was announced a year ago in October 2008, but not a single tractor has so far been rolled out to any farmer what to talk of 10,000 tractors," he said in a statement here on Tuesday.
"The situation is worsening as local vending industry has stopped functioning, because there is a complete lull in the sale of tractors and farmers are waiting for subsidised tractors," he said. "Either the scheme should be shelved or immediately revived for the sake of vending industry." he added. The concept of launching green tractor scheme was to increase the agricultural yield by employing modern equipment.
