02 Sep, 2009

The routine activities in all the rain-affected government hospitals were restored on Tuesday after heavy rainfall as bulk of patients were seen appearing at OPDs of all public health centres for treatment. The rainwater, which was accumulated in various wards of the hospitals, has been drained out and the treatment activities restored.
The paramedics at various government hospitals could not turn up for duties even after passing of 48 hours. The hospitals administrations have issued new dates to patients for operations, however, there are certain departments where activities could not return to normal.
The routine activities at Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK), National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), Sindh Government Services Hospital (SGSH), National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Spencer Eye Hospital (SEH), Layari General Hospital (LGH), Sindh Government Hospital Saudabad, Liaquatabad General Hospital (LGH) and Karachi Institute of Skin Diseases (KISD) been fully restored. Meanwhile, the rainwater submerged around roads, wards and surroundings of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) could not be drained.
The main entrance of JPMC was blocked due to accumulation of rainwater and the only road leading to Ward 20 remained closed throughout the day. The workers of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) were busy cleaning water to reopen the gate of the hospital for public transportation, but the main gate of the JPMC could not be opened for public till our going to press.
