Lecture on North Korea's nuclear explosion held

The Area Study Centre, Far East and South East Asia University of Sindh organised one-day lecture on "North Korea's Nuclear Explosion: Implications for Regional Security and Non-Proliferation Regimes" at University's senate Hall on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion Ambassador Dr Ross Masood Husain said that the North Korean nuclear explosion in May 2009 put whole security situation in jeopardy and can result a massive arms race in the region.
Ambassador Dr Ross Masood accused US of failing to provide security guarantees to the North Korea which were promised in the Six-party talks. Dr Ross Masood said that the North Korean nuclear explosion would greatly undermine not proliferation regimes especially NPT. He further said that the North Korean missile technology is even more sophisticated and its missiles can hit Alaska.
Dr Ross Masood Husain also said that the leadership succession in North Korea will give birth to a major crisis. Vice-Chancellor of University of Sindh Mazharul Haq Siddiqui said that the North Korean people were very bold in nature and they did not hesitate to defend their country even by exploring risks.
Mazharul Haq Siddiqui further said that positive approach be adopted to pursue nuclear weapons aspiring states to give up their nuclear weapons programmes. In her welcome address Professor Parveen Shah stated that the North Korea's recent steps of nuclear explosion and missile tests made security situation of Asia very much complicated.
