Singapore shares closed 1.11 percent higher Thursday on gains in selected chips, dealers said. The blue chip Straits Times Index rose 28.43 points to 2,598.36. Volume totalled 2.82 billion shares worth 1.81 billion Singapore dollars. Singapore's three main banks were among the winners with DBS Group Holdings up two cents to 12.76 dollars.
United Overseas Bank gaining 16 cents to 16.98 and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp six cents higher at 7.73 dollars. Property developer CapitaLand advanced nine cents to 3.75, City Developments was six cents stronger at 9.96 and Keppel Land dropped two cents to 2.53. Singapore Airlines, which announced after the market closed that it was delaying the delivery of eight Airbus A380 jets, ended two cents higher at 12.64.
