Hospital Management Information System (HMIS), a computerised system, which covers clinical, administrative and financial modules, is being introduced for the first time in the public sector hospital in the Punjab Social Security Health Management Company (PSSHMC) Hospital, 8-km Raiwind Manga Road.
The Company's Chairman Amir Fayyaz Sheikh will be the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the system to be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 5.45 pm. Dr Iftikhar Hussain Shah, Administrator, PSSHMC Hospital told Business Recorder that installation of HMIS is an initiative taken by the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif that will prove as a model for other public sector hospitals to follow.
He said lack of reliable data is a big hurdle in devising comprehensive policies in health sector, and the newly introduced system will enable the hospital administration to collect accurate data that will be beneficial not only for the patients but also for the administration in devising future policies. Dr Iftikhar Hussain Shah said that PSSHMC, which is a non-profit organisation, envisages enlarging area of operation by establishing more hospitals at various locations within the province with the view to providing better health care facilities to the secured workers and their dependants.
