07 Sep, 2009

A mass drunken street brawl in the Spanish capital Madrid left seven police officers injured and resulted in 20 arrests, Spanish television channel TVE reported Sunday. An open air party attended by around 3,000 young people descended into drunken fighting, with party-goers then pelting police who tried to intervene with stones and bottles.
Some smashed cars and set fire to rubbish bins, as police used batons and rubber bullets to try to regain order against the rioters. The clashes lasted nearly four hours in the Pozuelo de Alarcon suburb of western Madrid, home to around 85,000 people. Seven of the suspected rioters arrested were minors, reports said.
