Bangladesh have extended the contract of their Australian coach Jamie Siddons till the 2011 World Cup, a cricket board official said on Thursday. Siddons, 45, took over as coach of the national side in 2007 for a two-year period replacing Dav Whatmore, also an Australian.
"Siddons is in Australia and as soon as he returns the board will begin the process to renegotiate his contract," Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) spokesman Rabeed Imam told AFP. "The renewal will be subject to his terms and conditions." Siddons flew home to undergo treatment for skin cancer near his eyes and is expected to return to Bangladesh in the next few days.
The Australian guided the minnows to a historic Test and one-day series clean-sweep in the Caribbean in July followed by a 4-1 one-day victory against Zimbabwe. The 2011 World Cup will be jointly hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
