11 Sep, 2009

Khawaja Muhammad Abdullah Ex-Chairman of Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) said that the leather garments industry should be treated as equivalent to the textile garments industry and all stake holders like Leather Garments Manufacturers, Tanners, Exporters, Shoe Makers must be taken into confidence. In a statement here on Thursday, he urged the government to treat the leather garments industry as equivalent to the textile garments industry.
Fawad was of the view that the main production operations, problems and constraints of both the textile garments and the leather garments were the same and that in most cases, the buyers of both types of garments were also the same and these were sold in the same department stores.
He further stated that the PTA had brought this to the notice of the Commerce Ministry and the Textile Ministry that there was no difference between leather garments and textile garments, other than the type of raw materials used which is leather and textile. He appealed to the government to include incentives for leather garments exporters in the comprehensive strategy framework for leather and leather products similar to those granted to textile garments exporters.
