Partly Facetious: No one is willing to give credit to Zardari for anything

11 Sep, 2009

"So a year is over."
"You know the President should stay away from the three ladies."
"Stay away?"
"I meant not heed the advice of these three women."
"You mean Farzana Raja, Fauzia Wahab and Farhanaz Isphani?"
"Yes."
"Why, they are his most ardent supporters it TV shows are anything to go by."
"Bet you anything they advised him to have a one year anniversary."
"I guess, but so what?"
"Everyone has begun to assess the year past and let's be honest there is not much positive to show for it...besides no one is willing to give credit to the President for anything."
"I agree. The President was taking credit for the Swat operation but everyone is pointing to the government decision early last year handing over all decisions and operational matters to the army with respect to the operation."
"Right and with the sugar, atta and cement cartels operating at full speed ahead in terms of profit maximisation the people are not happy with the government's performance."
"But you know the President's major achievements were in the foreign policy arena. This is why the advert released by the Ministry of Health, cash strapped if my source is correct, focused on the President shaking hands with foreign leaders."
"Twenty seven strips in 12 months - that's a record."
"Some of these he took with his own money."
"And on our time..."
"What?"
"You know what I mean. But anyway all those he shook hands with are insisting that this time around they are not going to repeat past mistake."
"Meaning?"
"Meaning they will support the Pakistani people instead of one man or woman."
"Ah I see. But the President will feels he can forge close ties with world leaders and..."
"There is only one leader he forged close ties with?"
"It can't be the Saudi king, rumour has it that there are some issues there."
"No, and it can't be Obama or Brown, they have been quite clear in their support for the Pakistani people instead of one man."
"So, who is left? Not Sarkozy or Merkel - they haven't even referred to President Zardari. It can't be Qaddhafi, he was happy to get Gilani and..."
"You sure you can't guess?"
"No."
"Benazir Bhutto."
"Ah yea."
