Federating units agree to enhance provinces' share in FDP: Kaira

11 Sep, 2009

Punjab Finance Minister Tanvir Ashraf Kaira has said that all the four provinces have agreed to increase the share of provinces in Federal Divisible Pool (FDP). He said the government would soon announce the NFC Award in which the reservations of the provinces would be addressed.
The Minister said resources of provinces should be increased in FDP and they hope that the Federal government would enhance share of provinces in FDP. "All four provinces have agreed on key issues and they are trying to solve minor differences through discussions," he added.
According to him, this impression is totally wrong that Punjab is getting more resources on population basis. Population share of Punjab in NFC is 57 percent while Punjab is getting only 47 percent resources. Punjab has strong stance that resources should be distributed on population basis because people give taxes and these taxes should be spent on masses. Meanwhile, a delegation of MPAs met the minister at his office. He told them that President Asif Ali Zardari is trying hard to overcome multiple challenges faced by the country.
