As many as 20,000 police officials will remain alert in the provincial metropolis, while all Divisional SPs will patrol their respective areas to ensure peace during the days of Eid-ul-Fitr. Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Pervez Rathore said this while addressing a meeting of senior police officers here on Tuesday.
He said that Lahore police would leave no stone unturned in protecting the life and property of the people, and added that an "effective strategy" has been evolved to maintain law and order.
The CCPO said that around 775 mobile squads would patrol the city areas for 24 hours. An additional force, in uniform and plain clothes, would be deployed in the provincial metropolis to avert possible violence. According to official spokesman, the CCPO said that police has been directed to deal with lawbreakers and miscreants with an iron hand. He said that Police Emergency No 15 would also remain on high alert and would respond quickly to every complaint.
Rathore said that a special control room has also been established at his office to monitor the overall situation and to keep in touch with other departments. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against bomb hoaxers as arrangements have been made to trace their calls.
He said that police officials carrying metal detectors would be deployed in and around the mosques and imambargahs. Special camps are being set up at important markets of the city for convenience of the public. The CCPO directed Chief Traffic Officer to ensure smooth flow of traffic during Eid holidays so that Lahorites do not face any transportation difficulty. He also appealed to the religious leaders and citizens to cooperate with the police to render its security plan a success.
