Malaysian shares closed up 0.48 percent Thursday due to broad based gains prompted by a rally in US stocks, dealers said. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index gained 5.82 points to close at 1,218.80 while gainers outpaced decliners 397 to 222. The bourse could trade in the 1,210-1,225 range Friday but cautioned profit-taking ahead of a long weekend may narrow gains, he said. Volume was 877.3 million shares worth 1.33 billion ringgit (380 million dollars).
IOI Corp rose 2.1 percent to 5.37 ringgit, banking group CIMB gained 0.7 percent to 11.26 and Genting added 1.7 percent to 7.10.
