CJP directs authorities to release eight prisoners from Adyala jail

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry visited Adyala jail and spent about five hours of the Eid Day with the prisoners to redress their grievances and issued directions to release eight prisoners who were detained in petty offences.
Three judges of the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench Justice Nasir Saeed Shaikh, Justice Khawaja Imtiaz Ahmed and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood also accompanied the Chief Justice of Pakistan during the visit to Adyala jail. The Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Punjab gave the briefing to the Chief Justice of Pakistan about the number of prisoners which included the number of convict prisoners, under-trial prisoners, women prisoners including women having suckling babies, juvenile prisoners and old prisoners.
The Deputy Inspector General of Prisons apprised the Chief Justice of Pakistan that in pursuance of directions issued by him (Chief Justice) on the eve of his visit to the Kot Lakhpat jail Lahore, release of the prisoners has been streamlined and many persons who were confined on account of non-payment of fine/Diyat have been released on payment of the same by NGOs/Philanthropists on behalf of the prisoners in the recent past and this time only few cases of same matters were pending.
