Authorities asked to produce Masarrat Alam before court

28 Sep, 2009

The Sessions Court occupied Srinagar has directed the puppet authorities to produce the illegally detained Hurriyet leader and the Chairman of Muslim League Jammu and Kashmir (ML), Masarrat Alam Butt in the court on October 12.
Masarrat Alam Butt is presently lodged in Udhampur jail. He was arrested on September 4, 2008 for leading protest demonstrations against transfer of Kashmiris' land to Delhi-based Hindu Shrine Board, KMS reported.
The ML Chairman was to be produced before the court on Saturday in a false case against him. However, he was not brought from Jammu by the jail authorities.
Masarrat's counsels, Advocate Mir Shafqat Hussain and Advocate Mir Urfi submitted before the First Additional District and Sessions Judge, occupied Srinagar that the detained leader had not been produced in the court.
"So for 31 hearings have taken place in the case but Masarat Alam has not been produced in the Court over the year, which has resulted in inordinate delay in deciding the case," they submitted in the court.
They said, Masarrat is a political leader and despite this fact he is not being produced in the court by the jail authorities. After hearing the arguments, the Judge directed SP Udhampur Jail to produce Masarrat Alam Butt in person in the court on October 12, 2009, the next date of hearing.
