China to buy more rapeseed for reserves

29 Sep, 2009

The Chinese government will buy an additional 1 million tonnes of rapeseed or equivalent to 333,300 tonnes of rapeseed oil for state reserves to aid farmers mainly in north-west areas. The new purchases would be made in 11 provinces, including regions of Xinjiang, Qinghai and Gansu, at a set price and designated crushers would process them into rapeseed oil for state reserves, said the State Administration of Grain.
The amount was additional to that agreed on in June at 3,700 yuan ($542) per tonne and 136 plants subsidised to process into rapeseed oil.
