30 Sep, 2009

Malaysian share prices closed up 0.19 percent on Tuesday in line with regional markets, dealers said. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index gained 2.26 points to 1,208.21 on volume of 594.3 million shares worth 723.1 million ringgit (207.4 million dollars). Advancers outnumbered losers 369 to 239.
"Trade was choppy throughout the day with investors adopting a cautious stance in the absence of domestic catalysts," a dealer told Dow Jones Newswires. An analyst warned that a correction on the key index is "imminent". "Investors may look to Wall Street for guidance but there seems to be a negative bias to trade," Lee Cheng Hooi from top bank Maybank said. Among gainers, TA added 6.50 percent to 1.48 ringgit while Bursa was up 1.0 percent to 8.16. On the downside, plantation giant IOI Corp lost 0.60 percent to 5.20 ringgit and LFE Corp slid 10.20 percent to 0.39.
