At least 50 people, many of them women and children, were feared to have drowned after an overloaded boat capsized in eastern India, officials said Tuesday. Passengers were returning from a festival when the boat overturned in a river in the impoverished state of Bihar, local district magistrate Abhay Singh told AFP by telephone.
"Rescue teams have recovered 13 bodies but nearly 40 people are still missing," he said, adding that the boat had a capacity for just 30 people. Efforts to find more survivors had continued since the accident on Monday evening, he said.
