LHC disposes of petition about bar's presidential slot

03 Oct, 2009

The Lahore High Court (LHC) here on Friday disposed of an application of President Lahore High Court Bar Association Nasira Iqbal seeking directions for Pakistan Bar Council to decide the case pertaining to bar's presidential slot. Earlier, Ahmad Awais advocate appeared on behalf of Ms Nasira while Khurram Latif Khan Khosa and Azhar Siddique advocates represented respondent Munawar Iqbal Gondal.
Awais said that the Appeal Committee of PBC was scheduled to announce its verdict about presidential slot of LHCBA on October 3. He pleaded that there were apprehensions that the PBC would not announce the verdict on the set date to prolong the controversy in the bar till the visit of Chief Justice of Pakistan on October 10.
He also alleged that Nasira's opponent group led by respondent Munawar Gondal was trying to sabotage the upcoming visit of CJP. He requested the court to direct the respondent Appeal Committee not to delay the decision and announce its verdict on October 3. However, counsels for Gondal refuted these allegations and submitted that they had no influence on the appeal committee of PBC.
