Punjab University (PU) and Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to install grid station at Punjab University here on Friday. PU would grant land to Lesco for establishing grid station to cater for load demand of PU in particular and surrounding areas in general.
The grid station will ensure stable power supply to the areas besides improving voltage and ensuring future load demand of university and surrounding areas. PU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran and Lesco Chief Executive Office, Akram Arain signed the MoU. Under the MoU, Lesco would establish the grid station within 6 to 8 months. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mujahid Kamran and Akram Arain said the MoU had been signed purely in the larger interest of public and will ensure provision of electricity with uniform 230 voltage to the university and surrounding areas.
PU VC Dr Mujahid said that due to fluctuation of voltage, precious equipments in university's laboratories were damaged earlier and this was the serious problem in the university as well as in the surrounding areas. He said this was an example of collaboration between the two departments in the best interest of general public, PU, as well as Lesco.
