Elimination of terrorism top priority: minister

Federal Population Welfare Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the government is striving for protecting ideological and geographical fronts as well as weeding out of the menace of terrorism from the country.
Talking to the delegations of exporters, manufacturers, traders, women and party workers at the village Kuba Check, on Sunday, she said that some elements were trying to weaken and destabilise the country through their evil designs just for their personal gains.
The PPP government, with the active support and co-operation of the masses, would succeed in purging the country from the menace of the terrorism and restoring peace at all cost in troublesome areas of the country, she said.
The minister said that collective efforts of all sections of the society and political leaders at this juncture were direly needed to curb the menace of militancy and terrorists.
All available resources and modes were mobilising for extending maximum relief to the masses especially to the poor stigma of the society Dr Firdous said. The federal minister further stated PPP believed in democratic norms and always avoided the politics of confrontation just for the betterment of the poor masses and strengthening democracy at the gross root level in country.
Dr Firdous further stated that Benazir Bhutto was a symbol of democracy and PPP would continue its struggle for restoring the democracy in the country in its true spirit.
The government has formulated a strategy for banishing the backwardness from the politically, ignored and far-off areas of the country and in this regard special attention was being accorded on the provision of amenities to these areas aimed at par with the developed parts of the country, she maintained.
Moreover, she said that the government was making adequate efforts for resolving problems confronted by the women folk on top priority basis in the country. In this connection technical and vocational training programmes had already been introduced for the women community, she disclosed. The federal minister said that the government was also making strenuous efforts for the promotion of industrial sector aimed at developing strong industrial base in the country.
