The average price of Bangladeshi teas rose 1.38 percent to 140.68 taka ($2.04) per kg on higher demand at the weekly auction on Tuesday, brokers said. More than 1.45 million kg were sold on average at 140.68 taka per kg, up 1.91 taka from the last sale. Some 3.99 percent of teas on offer remained unsold and were taken back.
Buyers for Pakistan and Bangladesh, including exporters mainly to the Commonwealth of Independent States participated in the sale at the country's lone auction centre in the main port city Chittagong. Some 300 kg of Golden Broken Orange Pekoe realised the highest price of 188 taka per kg followed by another 150 selling at 186 taka while other grades were sold between 120 taka and 182 taka per kg. The next weekly auction will be held on October 13, with an offer of 1.76 million kg.
